I’ve been an electrical engineer and a programmer. I’ve worked with embedded systems and large systems, so I’m hoping to bring a unique spin to things.

Hi Mark,
Have you any experience with integrating Android WiFi with home automation?
Currently I am looking into writing some special WiFi and RF drivers for Android.
Looks like we are still playing with similar toys!
Drop me an email so we can catch up.
Carl
Hi Carl,
When I played with Android (version 1.6) the Wifi support sucked and I haven’t been back… so no. I did think developing on Android was pretty easy, though.

Hi mark!
I’m a ruby developer looking to get into home automation for personal use. I have a couple of questions.
If you had it all to do over again, would you still choose insteon or would you use another technology?
Which “modem” did you use to communicate between the software you wrote and the insteon devices. Would you recommend it?
I plan to write some custom apps to do things I want around the house.
Thanks
Adam
You could probably whip up something intuitive that doesn’t exist on desktop apps due to the physical sensors. For example, spinning in a chair and streaming accelerometer + magnetic field data to matlab:

Do you have any updates – I am wanting to install a zigbee compliant home automation system – but am not sure who to go with. Centralite was supposed to be coming out with an HA compliant system, but I can’t seem to find any information on it (I believe it is called Azela). Centralite hasn’t updated anything on their JetStream system for years – which does not inspire much confidence in their committment to zigbee.
Anyway, any updates would be appreciated!
Thanks, Julie
I don’t really have any updates. If you look at my ‘whither’ post things are just not happening, especially with Zigbee.
I’m interested in Z-Wave and the new Wifi stuff and Insteon’s dual stuff but haven’t really played with them much.
Soon, I hope.
